About Folsom Garden Club
2005 - 2006 Board of Directors The Folsom Garden Club was established in 1934. The main purpose then and now is to encourage and foster relationships among people who have a love of gardens and civic pride. The Club has participated in landscaping a garden adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Bureau. Lembi Park was the recipient of the Club’s charity when a stand of redwood trees was planted as a screen and windbreak. The Club presently maintains the Memorial Rose Garden on Natoma Street honoring past members; roses planted at the Public Library on Persifer Street, and the tiers at Folsom’s Historic Giuseppe Murer House. The tradition of an annual Garden Tour was begun in 2000; 2005 marked the fifth anniversary of “Sunday in the Gardens”. The garden tour is generally held in late April. Proceeds from these tours have been used for scholarships for students pursuing a career in plant science, ornamental horticulture, landscape design or related subjects. Proceeds raised are also used for the maintenance of The Murer House tiers and to fund other community projects. An offshoot of the Garden Club is the “Dirt Gardeners” whose purpose is to share specific information about the care and feeding of plants. Activities include meetings in member homes where gardening information is exchanged; field trips to growers, gardens and garden-related locations to enhance learning about gardening. The Folsom Garden club is a member of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce. The Club is also a member of the Sacramento River Valley District who acts as the liaison between our Club and the California Garden Clubs, Inc. |
